Costa Smeralda
boat excursions north-sardinia costa smeraldaThe Costa Smeralda (Monti di Mola in Gallurese) is a coastal stretch of Gallura in the north-east of Sardinia, which extends for 55 kilometers.
The expression indicates the stretch of the coast of Arzachena, in the province of Sassari, which extends from Capo Ferro – located just north of Porto Cervo – to the Gulf of Cugnana, at the beginning of the municipal territory of Olbia, near the Rena Bianca Portisco beach.
The Costa Smeralda is often mistakenly confused with the entire north-eastern coast of Sardinia, which can instead be indicated with the toponym of Gallura, even if this refers to the entire north-eastern area of the island and not just the coastal stretch. The nearby towns of Poltu Quatu, Baja Sardinia, Cannigione and Porto Rotondo are also sometimes associated with it.
The tourist region, included in the municipal territory of Arzachena, extends over a stretch of coast of about fifty kilometers. The coast is characterized by the presence of numerous inlets, small beaches, and not far from numerous islands of the La Maddalena archipelago such as Cappuccini, Bisce, Li Nibani, Mortorio, Le Camere and Soffi.
The heart of the Costa Smeralda is Porto Cervo where there are also all the services and numerous other commercial and residential areas such as Romazzino, Capriccioli, Cala di Volpe, Golfo Pevero, Pantogia and Liscia di Vacca. The commercial and residential area of Abbiadori has developed between Porto Cervo and Cala di Volpe, even if outside the Costa Smeralda Consortium.
