The La Maddalena Archipelago National Park is a geomarine park established in 1994.

The territory is mainly marine (about 78%) and is part of the area called Sanctuary for marine mammals. Together with the Strait of Bonifacio Nature Reserve, it will form the Strait of Bonifacio International Park.

The park covers a land area of 5,100 hectares and a marine surface of 15,046 hectares, on a front of 180 km of coastline, extending from the Strait of Bonifacio and including all the islands belonging to the La Maddalena Archipelago, up to a short distance from the coast of Gallura, where the smaller islands in front of the park are located, such as the island of Mortorio, with integral protection.

The park includes all the islands and islets belonging to the municipality of La Maddalena in the province of Sassari, in Sardinia.
Ferries leave from the town of La Maddalena for Palau, which is 40 km from Olbia, 100 km from Nuoro, 100 km from Sassari, 120 km from Porto Torres and 260 km from Cagliari. The nearest airport is Olbia, which is 40 km from Palau.
